I just started my PhD studies at the University of Cambridge. My first “culture shock” is Cambridge’s collegiate system, it’s very much like Hogwart’s houses!

Unlike Harry Potter, we have more freedom to choose which College we’ll be part of. I chose Churchill because of its STEM culture and more importantly, strong support of postgrads with families. We’re lucky because we were provided partner accommodation for me and my wife.

Churchill is a bit different from other colleges because it’s quite modern, as it was established in the 60s. It’s also apparent because of its Brutalist architecture, compared to the Neoclassical or Gothic spires you’ll see in other colleges.
